Douglas County Comprehensive Transportation Plan Underway
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners is spearheading the development of a 25-year Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) that includes the participation of the cities of Austell, Douglasville, and Villa Rica to tackle transportation issues on a county wide basis. This unprecedented plan will be the blueprint that the County and Cities can use to plan and budget needs for the growing population.
The purpose of the CTP is to evaluate current and future demands for transportation in light of current and predicted residential and business growth over the next 25 years. The CTP will analyze complete access to transportation, effects on the environment and air quality, current and future land use planning, congestion issues, alternative transportation opportunities (bike, pedestrian, transit, etc.), existing road system maintenance, and new construction needs.
Citizen input is an important element of the planning process and residents, businesses, industries, institutions - everyone affected by transportation - will be involved in this year-long study process.
The CTP is proposed to be completed in June 2008 with the following milestones: - June 2007: Public Participation Plan
- October 2007: Community Visioning Workshops
- February 2008: Bike and Pedestrian Plan
- February 2008: Truck and Freight Analysis
- April 2008: Intelligent Transportation System Plan
- June 2008: Final Plan Presentation.
