  • CAC: Sweetwater Camera Club Exhibit

    Thursday, October 18 - Wednesday, November 14:

    The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville / Douglas County celebrates one of the world's fastest growing art form - Photography - through the months of October and November. This group exhibit, on view Oct. 4 - Nov. 14, features the recent works by members of the local Sweetwater Camera Club. This exhibit is a part of the Atlanta Celebrate Photography Festival Guide. Hosted by the Junior League- Douglas County Chapter, the FREE opening reception will be held on Thursday, October 4th, from 6 until 8 pm at the Arts Center.

  • Drone Squad Fall Sessions

    Thursday, October 18 - Monday, December 31:

    Registration for Drone Squad Fall session is now open. Fall session will be from October-December. Douglas County Parks and Rec (DCPR) has partnered with KidsDroneZone.org and is offering a Premium Technology Program at Deer Lick Park for scholars grades 3-11. Drone Squad is a STEAM Aviation Hands on Project Based Technology Program. During Think Tank Sessions, scholars will learn to Build, Code, and Fly Drones. Learn about Unmanned System Careers in a challenging environment. Think Tank Sessions are $40/month, two Sundays//per month, from 4pm to 6pm plus a registration fee.

  • Douglas County Challengers Baseball for Special Needs Children

    Thursday, October 18 - Wednesday, October 31:

    The Douglas County Challengers are a baseball team of children with special needs that are physically and/or mentally challenged. The children range in age from 5 - 21 years. The Challengers play every Saturday morning during the Spring and Fall seasons. Spring season is April, May and June and Fall season is September and October. The games are played at Beulah Ruritan Park, 3655 McKown Road. Registration is not limited to a particular time as children will be accepted at any time during either Spring or Fall seasons. The parents are not required to pay a registration fee. The Challenger team is funded by sponsors in order to provide uniforms and necessities, even the trophies are donated so there is no cost to the family of the players.

  • American Sign Language Classes

    Thursday, October 18 - Thursday, October 25:

    Are you interested in learning American Sign Language (ASL)? If so, be sure to register online for classes at the Ike Owings Center located at Hunter Memorial Park, 8830 Gurley Road. The classes are 5 weeks in length beginning on September 27th and continuing through October 25th. The time will depend on level of experience with ASL club (4-5), Intermediate Class (5:15-6:15) and Beginner Class (6:30-7:30). There's also a cost associated with the class.   • Douglas County Task Force Seeking Volunteers

    Thursday, October 18 - Monday, December 31:

    The Douglas County Task Force on Family Violence and Sexual Assault is in need of volunteers. Interested candidates will serve as volunteer advocates on our Domestic Assault Response Team and Sexual Assault Response Team.     Second Saturday of the month, 10:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.

    Come experience local missions with the Mobile Pantry. The Mobile Pantry partners with the Atlanta Community Food Bank to fight hunger by engaging, educating, and empowering the community.   • Relay for Life: Pink Out Day

    Friday, October 19:

    On October 19th, wear pink for Pink Out Day! As a community, we have all been affected in some way by cancer. Have a large white poster or plastic party tablecloth available for all employees. For $1 per name, they may write name(s) of people they remember (lost the fight) and honor (survivor) for battling cancer. All money collected on this day is to be labeled "Douglas county pink out day" and mailed to:American Cancer Society attn: Debbie Freeman, 3380 Chastain Meadows Parkway NW, Suite 200,Kennesaw, GA 30144.     Tuesday, October 23:

    Child Safety Seat Inspection Station (CSSIS): One-on-one time with parent/caregiver to provide education on proper car seat use, as well as hands-on help for car seat installations. Appointments are generally scheduled in 45mins time slots. Car Seat Distribution Program: Applicant must be a resident of Douglas County and provide proof that he/she is receiving assistance, such as WIC, Medicaid, or PeachCare.   • Connect Douglas Open House

    Douglas County’s Department of Multi-Modal Transportation Services has unveiled a new brand identity and logo for the services formerly offered as RideShare. All services previously offered by Rideshare are now under the name "Connect Douglas." Designed during the Rebranding and Education Campaign conducted by The Collaborative Firm, LLC, the new brand and logo will be featured on all communications beginning this fall and will be gradually placed on the vehicles. To mark the official launch of the new Connect Douglas brand, the Department of Multi-Modal Transportation Services is hosting an Open House on Tuesday, October 23rd at the Transportation Center. The community is invited to attend anytime from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to get a first-hand look at the new vehicles, enjoy refreshments, and the chance to win door prizes. This is a pill take back initiative for the collection of unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

    The Seventh Annual Foundation Fun Run is happening on November 3, 2018 (rain or shine) at New Manchester High School. The Fun Run is for children pre-K through middle school. The first race is at 9:00 a.m. and it's 1.5 miles for middle schoolers. The last race of the day is a super cute Tot Trot for pre-K kids at 11:30 a.m. There will be awards/medals presented to the Top 10 male and Top 10 female finishers in each age category. Trophies will be presented to the three schools with the most Top 10 finishers. This family friendly event is sponsored by the Douglas County Education Foundation, the organization that raises money for Douglas County School System teachers and students.

  • Beyond the Front Porch: National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center

    Saturday, November 10:

    Join Beyond the Front Porch, Saturday November 10th, as they honor our Veterans by learning more about the sacrifices of our Nations Infantry. They will have an immersive experience featuring over 230 years of Military History located in Columbus, GA just outside of Fort Benning. This 190,000 sq foot museum houses more than 70,000 military artifacts. They will have a professional guide lead us through this massive campus, while sharing with us interesting facts of the day in the life of a soldier and also enjoy an informative IMAX movie. This activity, transportation, and lunch is $25 per person. Parents are encouraged to join us!

    The 2018 Douglas County Annual Veterans Day Lighted Parade will occur on Sunday, November 11th. The parade begins at 7 pm at Douglas County High School and goes through downtown Douglasville.
