  • Boundary Waters Aquatic Center: Adult Group Swim Lesson Program

    Thursday, October 10 - Saturday, October 26:

    Boundary Waters Aquatic Center is offering adult swim lesson, S.E.A.L.S (Students Earning A Lifelong Skill) for the fall of 2019! The class days are Thursdays at 6:30PM and Saturdays at 10:30AM. Session 3 starts on October 10th-26th. The cost for Douglas County Residents is $70 and Out of County Residents is $85. Pre-registration is required and on-going until all the spots are filled.

  • Free Legal Assistance on Housing Matters

    Second Thursday and Fourth Monday

    Are you having problems with your lease, security deposit, or landlord? Free legal assistance and advice on housing matters for eligible persons is being offered by Georgia Legal Services Program. These services occur every second Thursday (4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.) and every Fourth Monday (10 a.m. - 12 p.m.) at Douglas County Public Library, 6810 Selman Drive.

  • Engineering for Kids STEM Sessions

    Thursday, October 10 - Monday, October 28:

    STEM Enrichment is partnering with Engineering for Kids- Atlanta Southwest Metro featuring Software Engineering "Scratch" sessions on Monday evenings for students grades pre-k through 8th.   • Meals On Wheels Volunteer Opportunity

    Thursday, October 10 - Tuesday, December 31:

    Make a difference in the lives of homebound older adults when you deliver a hot meal and a smile. Join Douglas County's Senior Services highly motivated group of volunteers and staff that serve 150 clients each day, Monday through Friday. Volunteer regularly on a daily, weekly, bi-monthly, quarterly, etc. schedule that works best for you. Our clients appreciate and look forward to the daily visits from the volunteers.   • Douglas County Task Force Volunteer Opportunities

    Thursday, October 10 - Wednesday, October 23:

    The Douglas County Task Force (DCTF) is in need of a few "good volunteers". Are you interested in serving victims in your community by becoming a victim advocate? You will need to attend one of the three Orientations that we have scheduled in October of 2019. The dates and time of the orientations are as follows: Tuesday- Oct. 8th - 6:00 pm, Saturday Oct. 19th - 09:00 am, and Wednesday Oct. 23- 6 pm. The orientation starts promptly at the time listed above is approximately 1 1/2 hour long. In these orientations, you will learn all you need to know about becoming a part of a very elite group. There is a 35 hour training requirement, if you choose to move forward which consist of 11 hours of on-line training, and 24 hours of classroom training. The first two days of training are Saturday Oct. 26th and 27th. You must attend both 8 hour days. The remaining 8 hours of training we be spread out during the next week. We know that's a lot to ask of a volunteer but providing direct service to victims requires skill and training. If you are interested, please choose a date you will attend the orientation. Email that date back immediately as space is very limited to 8 people.

  • Cultural Arts Council’s Fall Art Classes are available!

    Thursday, October 10 - Friday, December 20:

    The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville Douglas County (CAC) has announced their new fall art class lineup, which will continue until December 20th. This is your chance to explore creativity with expert teaching artist as they introduce a variety of exciting classes and workshops with something for everyone to enjoy. All classes are held at the CAC and classes are offered during the day, evening, and weekends. Registration and payment can be done online or in person for new art classes.   • Douglas County Youth Basketball Winter League

    Thursday, October 10 - Friday, November 8:

    The registration for Douglas County Youth Basketball Winter League 2019-2020 for boys and girls ages 5-18 is still open and will continue until November 8th. The winter league is an 8-game season with practice once a week starting on Saturday, January 11, 2020. The cost to participate is $85 per player.

  • 2020 West Metro Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program

    Do you have an interest in gardening? Want to learn more? Become a certified Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteer by participating in the 2020 West Metro Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program.   • Douglas County Calendar Art Contest for Students Announced

    Thursday, October 10 - Friday, October 25:

    Douglas County students are invited to participate in a "150 year anniversary celebration" art contest in recognition of Douglas County's birthday next year for 2020. Students are encouraged to enter artwork of paintings or drawings on 8.5X11 paper. The deadline to enter is Monday, October 25, 2019.

  • Cultural Arts Council: October Exhibit

  • Douglas County Challengers Baseball for Special Needs Children

    Thursday, October 10 - Thursday, October 31, 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.:

    The Douglas County Challengers are a baseball team for children with special needs that are physically and/or mentally challenged. The children range in age from 5 to 21 years. Although games are played in Douglas County at Beulah Ruritan Park, players are not limited within Douglas County. Games are played every Saturday morning through September and October. Players can participate at no cost.

  • Douglas County Sheriff's Office Public Handgun Classes

    Thursday, October 10 - Sunday, December 1, 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.:

    Public Handgun Classes are being offered to Douglas County residents by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Training Division Firearms Instructors. Classes are held one evening of each month from 6 pm until approximately 9 pm. The classes will include instruction and/or discussion on handgun safety, proper shooting techniques cleaning and maintenance, weapon function, etc. The classes are being held at 8470 Earl D. Lee Blvd. Applicants must be a resident or business owner in Douglas County. You must be at least 18 years of age. You must give consent for a background check. There is no fee for this class.   • Douglasville Welcome Center Re-Opening

    Thursday, October 17, 4:00 p.m.:

    To celebrate the grand reopening of the renovated Douglasville Welcome Center, the Douglasville Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 4:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place just outside of the Welcome Center, located at 12385 Veterans Memorial Highway in Downtown Douglasville. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments and take a brief tour of the building’s updated interior. In addition to structural improvements, other updates to the building include new ADA compliant public restrooms, furnishings, an inviting entrance, and fresh color palate. The celebration of Welcome Center continues Friday, Oct. 18. From 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., the Douglasville CVB invites visitors to the Welcome Center to participate in its rock art campaign. The painted rocks will be hidden throughout the City of Douglasville and whoever finds specific rocks matching restaurants and/or attractions, can turn it into the Welcome Center to receive a prize from the business who decorated the rock.

  • DEA Pill Take Back Day

    Saturday, October 26, 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.:

    Do you have old or expired medications? Do you have sharps such as epi-pens, diabetic needles, or insulin items that you need to dispose of? Douglasville Police Department has partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration, WellStar Hospitals, Douglas County Water & Sewer Authority, and Douglas County Safe Kids during the DEA Pill Take Back Day to help you clean out those medicine cabinets. Location: Douglasville Municipal Complex at 2083 Fairburn Rd, Douglasville, Georgia 30135 on October 26th between 10:00am and 2:00pm to do your disposals. Sharps need to be placed in a plastic container, no open sharps will be taken.

  • Sixth Annual Georgia Gravity Games

    Saturday, November 2:

    The sixth annual Georgia Gravity Games will take place in downtown Douglasville on Saturday, Nov. 2. Sponsored by Google, Georgia Tech and the City of Douglasville, the gravity-powered car race is a hands-on way to get young people excited about STEM subjects. Science Street will again be featured this year with games and activities that provide competitors and spectators with another way to engage with STEM concepts. Several roads in downtown Douglasville will be temporarily closed to make this day of experiential learning possible.These closures will be in effect from Friday, Nov. 1 at 5:00 p.m. to Saturday, Nov. 2 at 5:00 p.m. During the closure, Broad Street and Spring Street will operate normally, so please access parking from these and any perpendicular streets. The City of Douglasville apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, but it expects the Gravity Games will be a wonderful event for residents.

    Monday, November 11, 7:00 p.m.:

    The annual Douglas County Veterans Day Lighted Parade, titled “The Parade with a Purpose,” will make its way again through Douglasville to honor all of our veterans, active military and reserves on the night of Veterans Day, Monday, November 11th. This traditional parade presents the opportunity for Douglas County residents to say “thank you” to those who have obtained, preserved and continue to protect our freedoms. Veterans groups, military and reserve units, along with JROTC members and marching bands are invited to participate in the annual occasion.
