    Make a difference in the lives of homebound older adults when you deliver a hot meal and a smile. Join Douglas County's Senior Services highly motivated group of volunteers and staff that serve 150 clients each day, Monday through Friday. Volunteer regularly on a daily, weekly, bi-monthly, quarterly, etc. schedule that works best for you. Our clients appreciate and look forward to the daily visits from the volunteers.   • Douglas County Sheriff's Office Public Handgun Classes

    Thursday, June 20 - Sunday, December 1:

    Public Handgun Classes are being offered to Douglas County residents by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Training Division Firearms Instructors. Classes are held one evening of each month from 6 pm until approximately 9 pm. The classes will include instruction and/or discussion on handgun safety, proper shooting techniques cleaning and maintenance, weapon function, etc. The classes are being held at 8470 Earl D. Lee Blvd. Applicants must be a resident or business owner in Douglas County. You must be at least 18 years of age. You must give consent for a background check. There is no fee for this class.   • Douglas County Challengers Baseball for Special Needs Children

    Thursday, June 20 - Sunday, June 30, 10:00 a.m.:

    It's baseball season! Douglas County Challengers are a baseball team of children with special needs that are physically and/or mentally challenged. The age range is from 5 to 21 years old. The Challengers play every Saturday during the spring and fall seasons at Beulah Rurital Park, 3655 McKown Road. Games start at 10 am. Spring season begins on Saturday, April 6th. Registration is not limited to a particular time as children will be accepted at any time during either spring or fall seasons. Parents are not required to pay a registration fee due to generous sponsors. Apply today to join the Douglas County Challengers!

  • Midway Christian Academy Summer Cruise

    Monday, June 24 - Friday, July 19, 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.:

    Midway Christian Academy at Midway United Methodist Church will be offering three weeks of summer program in June and July: June 24-28; July 8-12; July 15-19. Each week will have a different theme and will include stories, crafts, outdoor play time, and a snack each day from 9 am to 12 pm. Midway Christian is located at 1930 Midway Road, Douglasville. Cost: One-time $25 registration; $50/child for each week they attend. Payment is due the Monday morning of each week the child attends.

  • City of Douglasville: Digital Media Camp

    Monday, June 24 - Friday, June 28, 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.:

    Looking for a fun, interesting, and unique opportunity for your child this Summer? Well look no further. The Douglasville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Digital Media Camp with two sessions at the Ike Owings Community Center, 8830 Gurley Road. The first session will be June 24th through June 28th and the second session will be July 15th through July 19th. The participants of the program are afforded the opportunity to learn Mass Media basics and skills on how to operate a video camera. Participant will also learn how to create commercials, edit videos, and create flyers while gaining an understanding of the importance of reach, target audience, and demographics. Campers will visit local TV stations and take advantage of a behind the scene look at the television broadcasting. The camp is open to both boys and girls between the ages of 10-14. The cost is $50 per session.

  • Wednesday Wind Down

    Wednesday, June 26 - Wednesday, August 14:

    Wednesday Wind Down is returning to Downtown Douglasville at O'Neal Plaza after temporarily moving to Hunter Park while the Plaza was under renovation. The free concert series offers fun and family-friendly musical acts. A list of acts will be forthcoming from the City and will be posted on its website and various social media accounts. The concerts will continue until August 14th.

    Monday, July 8 - Friday, August 2:

    Registration for Project Fun Summer Camp at Deer Lick Park starts on April 1st and will continue until all sessions are full. There will be several sessions for children ages 5-12, session 3 (July 8th-July 19th), and session 4 (July 22nd-August 2nd). For the teen camp, children ages 13-15, there will be two sessions, session 1 (June 3rd-June 14th) and session 2 (July 22nd - August 2nd).
