  • American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) Scholarship Opportunity

    Thursday, March 26 - Friday, May 15:

    The Douglas County Charter Chapter # 1646 of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) is offering one scholarship worth $1,000 funded through the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund to one deserving area student. Each year, local chapters of ABWA provide Stephen Bufton Memorial Scholarships (SBMEF) to female students attending an accredited U.S. Technical College. To be eligible for the scholarship consideration, candidates must be women who (1) must be citizens of the United States; residents of either Douglas or Carroll County, Georgia; (2) are attending a technical college in August 2020. The school must be licensed, accredited or state-approved. Eligible women interested in applying for the scholarship should contact today! Scholarship applicants must contact the co-chairs to have the online application initiated. A minimum of three (3) eligible completed applications are required for the scholarship to be awarded. Applications must be completed by May 15, 2020. The scholarship recipient(s) will be notified in July 2020.

  • Midway Christian Academy Open Enrollment

  • Chairman Jones Issues Executive Order for Restaurants to Move to Take-out or Deliver

    Thursday, March 26 - Tuesday, March 31:

    Chairman Dr. Romona Jackson Jones has issued and executive order effective immediately for all restaurants, coffee shops and other places where food is offered to the public for on premise consumption shall be limited to take out, drive-through, or delivery. Restaurants with a license to sell alcoholic beverages may sell such beverages with takeout orders.

  • Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy Registration

    Thursday, March 26 - Tuesday, April 14, 6:00 p.m.:

    The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office hosts a 12 week course as a way for the community to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the DCSO works. The next round of classes starts on February 20, 2020, at 6:30pm at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 8470 Earl D. Lee Blvd. on the second floor. Dinner will be provided starting at 6:00pm. The course is free, but they ask that those who are interested be able to attend all twelve weeks. The goal is not to teach attendees how to become law enforcement officers or pressure them into a career in law enforcement, but rather to give them some insight into the duties and responsibilities of our personnel. Applicants must be a resident or business owner in Douglas County, be at least 21 years of age, and give consent for a background check as part of the application process. More information about the Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy and a link to the application can be found on our website. They have also shared information about the program on our social media platforms. There will be applications available in our lobby if anyone wants to stop by and fill one out.

  • Douglas County Public Library: Georgia Journeys: Legacies of World War II Exhibit

    Wednesday, April 1 - Monday, May 4:

    The Douglas County Public Library will be hosting the traveling banner exhibition Georgia Journeys: Legacies of World War II. The exhibition explores the lives of World War II veterans, home front workers, and Holocaust survivors who call Georgia their home. It is a multimedia exhibition based on interviews and testimonials documented by Kennesaw’s Museum of History and Holocaust Education. It will be available to view starting April 1st through May 4th.   • LIHEAP Cooling Assistance Available

    Wednesday, April 1:

    As of April 1, 2020 at 8:30am, Tallatoona will begin accepting appointments for the LIHEAP cooling program for Senior Households 65 & older and Homebound Households. Appointments for the General Public will be accepted beginning May 1, 2020 at 8:30am. Douglas County residents who qualify will receive either $350.00 or $400.00 toward their electric bill. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to health and safety concerns related to COVID 19, appointments for assistance will be completed remotely by telephone. Due to COVID 19, Tallatoona offices are currently closed until further notice.

  • CAC "It's About Blooming Time" Virtual Exhibit

    Monday, April 6 - Thursday, April 30, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.:

    Celebrating Spring and the eternal blooming of art, The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/ Douglas County presents the blossoming works of four painters, featuring Cathy Clodfelter, Nikki Davidson, Heidi Hunt, and Martin Pate, in a gorgeous gallery exhibit. The exhibit will take place this April virtually through the Cultural Arts Center social media platforms such as Facebook. The CAC excitedly presents to the public not only a beautiful exhibit of nature, but a glimpse into the nature of four lives driven to create beauty. Videos will be posted by the following schedule: during the weekdays of April 6, each artist will give his or her artist talk as we get to know the artist behind the paint and what compels him or her; For the week of April 13, tune in each day to hear a more in-depth discussion of individual artworks; Throughout the week of April 20, artists will answer the questions we’ve shared (feel free to ask via email at info@artsdouglas.org, or on our facebook page); and ultimately, stay tuned as we deliver a slideshow of artworks so the community does not have to miss this blooming opportunity while indoors.   • Eviction Prevention Project Housing Legal Clinic

    2nd Thursday and 4th Monday

    Eviction Prevention Project of the Georgia Legal Services Program provides free legal services to assist individuals and families facing eviction and other housing problems such as landlords refusing to make repairs. They currently have a legal clinic twice a month in Douglas County where individuals who need legal advice on housing issues can stop by to ask an attorney questions. The dates, times, and location are on the flyer attached to this email (2nd Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 and 4th Mondays from 10:00-12:00 at the Douglas County Public Library).
