  • Boundary Waters Aquatic Center: Adult Group Swim Lesson Program

    Thursday, August 22 - Saturday, October 26:

    Boundary Waters Aquatic Center is offering adult swim lesson, S.E.A.L.S (Students Earning A Lifelong Skill) for the fall of 2019! The class days are Thursdays at 6:30PM and Saturdays at 10:30AM. Session 1 starts on August 8th-24th, Session 2 starts on September 12th-28th, and Session 3 starts on October 10th-26th. The cost for Douglas County Residents is $70 and Out of County Residents is $85. Pre-registration is required and on-going until all the spots are filled. Registration will start Monday, July 22 at 11AM.

  • Meals On Wheels Volunteer Opportunity

    Thursday, August 22 - Tuesday, December 31:

    Make a difference in the lives of homebound older adults when you deliver a hot meal and a smile. Join Douglas County's Senior Services highly motivated group of volunteers and staff that serve 150 clients each day, Monday through Friday. Volunteer regularly on a daily, weekly, bi-monthly, quarterly, etc. schedule that works best for you. Our clients appreciate and look forward to the daily visits from the volunteers.   • Applications for Local Author Fairs

    Thursday, August 22 - Monday, September 9:

    Douglas County Public Library is now accepting applications for its third author fair! This time they're hosting two - one for children's authors and one for authors of books for adults. If you've published a book and live in or around the Douglasville area, please stop by the library Circulation Desk to get an application. Deadline is September 9th. Douglas County Public Library has already hosted two successful fairs showcasing authors that live in our community. It's a great way for people to get to know the writing community and support it as well. Applications will be reviewed and a variety of authors will be selected to participate.   • Cultural Arts Council’s Summer Art Classes are available!

    The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville Douglas County (CAC) has announced their new summer art class lineup, which is running now through August 30, 2019. This is your chance to explore creativity with expert teaching artist as they introduce a variety of exciting classes and workshops with something for everyone to enjoy. All classes are held at the CAC and classes are offered during the day, evening, and weekends. Registration and payment can be done online or in person for new art classes.     Brighten Academy in Douglasville, GA is seeking enthusiastic, engaging and energetic teachers for our After School Program (ASP). Our ASP programs serves kids in grades K-8. Responsibilities include (but not limited to): signing students in, preparing snacks, helping with homework, playing games, reading books, performing group activities such as art projects or sports.   • Douglas County Youth Commission Accepting Applications

    Thursday, August 22 - Friday, September 6:

    The Douglas County Department of External Affairs is now accepting applications from high school sophomores and juniors for the Douglas County Youth Commission. The program is dedicated to educating young citizens about the importance of being actively conscious of their local government environment and the opportunities available in the public sector. This program is in partnership with the Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS) of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia and the Douglas County Citizen's Academy Alumni Association. The program will run from September through April and will meet once a month on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. For more information, please send an email to tabrieahcobb@co.douglas.ga.us.   • Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy Accepting Applications

    Thursday, August 22 - Saturday, August 31:

    The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy scheduled to begin in September. Participants will meet Thursday nights for 12 weeks. Each session focuses on a different area of our operation, such as jail operations, administration, recruiting, patrol operations, communications, investigations, vice and narcotics, youth and safety programs, traffic and criminal laws. In addition to classroom training, CLEA students are also given the opportunity to participate in a series of practical exercises.   • CAC: A Tiny Fundraiser

    Thursdays in August, 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.

    A Tiny Fundraiser” continues at the Cultural Arts Council in August. In partnership with the CAC Satellite organization, The Douglas County Art Guild, each Thursday night the CAC will remain open till 7 pm with themed nights, refreshments, drinks, demos, activities, door prizes, live music and much more. Come enjoy the fun, relax, and get in touch with your creative side! This exhibit features a room filled with 6x6 artwork by artists all around the community. Each piece of artwork will be for sale for only $20. All proceeds raised will help support the CAC's mission and programs throughout the year.   • Community Emergency Response Team Training

    Thursday, August 22 - Thursday, September 12, 6:00 p.m.:

    The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a free program designed to educate citizens about how to prepare for emergencies that might impact our area. The CERT course is taught by a team of first responders who have the knowledge and skills to instruct the sessions. Sessions are two and a half hours long, one evening a week over an 8-week period. Classes will be held on Thursdays at 6pm.

  • Douglas County Sheriff's Office Public Handgun Classes

    Thursday, August 22 - Sunday, December 1, 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.:

    Public Handgun Classes are being offered to Douglas County residents by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Training Division Firearms Instructors. Classes are held one evening of each month from 6 pm until approximately 9 pm. The classes will include instruction and/or discussion on handgun safety, proper shooting techniques cleaning and maintenance, weapon function, etc. The classes are being held at 8470 Earl D. Lee Blvd. Applicants must be a resident or business owner in Douglas County. You must be at least 18 years of age. You must give consent for a background check. There is no fee for this class.   • Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy Registration

    Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.

    We are now registering for our fall session of the Douglasville Police Department Citizens Law Enforcement Academy. Come learn how your police department works. The class teaches what officers do on a day-to-day basis. The class begins September 3rd and we are registering through August 30th. All registrants need to be able to commit to attending the 10 sessions on Tuesday nights from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm. There is NO FEE for this class.   • Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Plan Session

    Leaders from across Georgia’s state departments and nonprofit agencies have joined with the Prevention and Community Support Section (DFCS) and Prevent Child Abuse Georgia to update the state’s Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Plan. This is a collaborative effort that represents all of the agencies, organizations, and individuals who want to see a decrease in Georgia’s child maltreatment rates. You’re invited to a regional planning session on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at West Georgia Technical College, 4600 Timber Ridge Drive, Douglasville, Ga. 30135.     The Douglas County Challengers are a baseball team for children with special needs that are physically and/or mentally challenged. The children range in age from 5 to 21 years. Although games are played in Douglas County at Beulah Ruritan Park, players are not limited within Douglas County. Games are played every Saturday morning through September and October. Players can participate at no cost.

  • Beyond the Front Porch September Field Trip

    Join Beyond the Front Porch, Saturday September 14th, as we tour Zoo Atlanta that houses over 1,500 animals representing more than 220 species. The zoo is home to the nation’s largest zoological collections of gorillas and orangutans and is one of only four zoos in the U.S. currently housing giant pandas.   • Douglas County Challengers Fundraiser

    Saturday, September 14, 9:00 a.m.:

    The Douglas County Challengers, a baseball team for special needs children, will be having a motorcycle ride and fundraiser event on Saturday, September 14th at Harley-Davidson Atlanta (501 Thornton Rd). The donation for the ride is $15.00 per rider, $5 per back seat. Registration begins at 9am and leaves HD at 10am to ride to Beulah Ruritan Park in Douglasville to watch the Challengers play a game. After the game, food, music, raffles, activities for children and more will be available back at Harley-Davidson. 100% of the donations go to support the Challengers.

  • Inaugural Freedom Ball of the West Metro Branch of the National Association

The Freedom Fund Ball and Award Ceremony is a tribute to those who have dedicated their time and energy to supporting the ideals and mission of the NAACP.The theme is “Celebrating the Era of the Woman.” The venue is the Douglasville Conference Center located at 6700 Church Street, Douglasville, GA 30134. The event will include dinner by Proof of the Pudding, live music by Toyo Entertainment (Tyrone Jackson Pianist, Niomie Wilson, Vocalist) and an awards program to celebrate contributions by community members making a difference in Douglas and Paulding Counties. Dress for the event is formal attire. Tickets are available now. Tickets can be purchased at Love Christian Center every Tuesday in August from 6:30-7:00 pm.
