  • Meals On Wheels Volunteer Opportunity

    Thursday, November 7 - Tuesday, December 31:

    Make a difference in the lives of homebound older adults when you deliver a hot meal and a smile. Join Douglas County's Senior Services highly motivated group of volunteers and staff that serve 150 clients each day, Monday through Friday. Volunteer regularly on a daily, weekly, bi-monthly, quarterly, etc. schedule that works best for you. Our clients appreciate and look forward to the daily visits from the volunteers.   • Cultural Arts Council’s Fall Art Classes are available!

    Thursday, November 7 - Friday, December 20:

    The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville Douglas County (CAC) has announced their new fall art class lineup, which will continue until December 20th. This is your chance to explore creativity with expert teaching artist as they introduce a variety of exciting classes and workshops with something for everyone to enjoy. All classes are held at the CAC and classes are offered during the day, evening, and weekends. Registration and payment can be done online or in person for new art classes.   • Aviation Explorer and Drone Squad Registration

    Thursday, November 7 - Thursday, January 30:

    Registration for Aviation Explorer and Drone Squad is currently open. This is a hand-on no sit down fully engaged program. There are VERY limited slots available. This aviation program runs from January through May 2020. Douglas County Parks and Rec (DCPR) has partnered with KidsDroneZone.org who is offering a Premium Technology Aviation Program at Deer Lick Park for scholars’ grades 4 to 12. Drone Squad is a STEAM Aviation Hands-on. Project Based Technology Program. During Think Tank Sessions, scholars will engage in drone building, drone coding, and drone flying. Scholars will also participate in Aviation Ground School, Aviation field trips, and take an orientation flight in a plane, and an international research project, and Aerial Cinematography. Scholars will also engage in Aerial Sport Games of which the object is to knock your opponent out of the sky. Scholars will learn about Unmanned System Careers in a challenging environment. Think Tank Sessions are $50/month, two Sundays//per month, from 4pm to 6pm in addition to registration fees. Registration opens: November 1st.

  • Douglas County Chamber Singers are Holding Auditions!

    Thursday, November 7 - Saturday, November 30:

    The Douglas County Chamber Singers are now holding auditions! Come join the DCCS family for fun, friendship, and to make extraordinary music which enriches our community. The Chamber Singers have performed Mozart’s Requiem both at Carnegie Hall and in Vienna, Austria. They also performed Sancta Civitas (Ralph Vaughan Williams) at Carnegie Hall most recently in June 2017. Auditions include scales for vocal range, sight reading, and performing a prepared piece. Practices are held on Tuesday nights weekly from 7:30-9:30pm at the First United Methodist Church on Prestley Mill Road. Anyone interested in auditioning should contact today!

  • CAC Celebrates Photography: “From A Man’s Viewpoint Exhibit

    Thursday, November 7 - Thursday, November 21, 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.:

    The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents a celebration of one of the world’s fastest growing art forms – photography – from “A Man’s Viewpoint.” The exhibit has been on display since October 3 and will remain until November 21. More than 70 photographs by the group will be on display. Gallery admission, tours, and receptions are free.   • Douglas County Sheriff's Office Public Handgun Classes

    Thursday, November 7 - Sunday, December 1, 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.:

    Public Handgun Classes are being offered to Douglas County residents by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Training Division Firearms Instructors. Classes are held one evening of each month from 6 pm until approximately 9 pm. The classes will include instruction and/or discussion on handgun safety, proper shooting techniques cleaning and maintenance, weapon function, etc. The classes are being held at 8470 Earl D. Lee Blvd. Applicants must be a resident or business owner in Douglas County. You must be at least 18 years of age. You must give consent for a background check. There is no fee for this class.   • Sweetwater Creek State Park: Candlelight Hike to the Mill

    Saturday, November 16, 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.:

    On Saturday, November 16th from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, this “Friends of Sweetwater Creek State Park” mile-long guided night hike is moderately difficult and goes inside the Civil War era textile mill ruins of New Manchester alongside the beautiful rapids of Sweetwater Creek. Candle lanterns are provided. No children under 6 years or dogs. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes required. No reservations possible. Meet and pay (cash only, exact change please)at the Visitors Center. $5 plus $5 parking. Sweetwater Creek State Park is located at 1750 Mt. Vernon Rd.
