  • 2018-2019 Concert Season Auditions

    Thursday, August 16 - Sunday, September 30:

    "2018 - 2019 Concert Season Auditions" by The West Atlanta/Douglas Choral Society (WADCS), Inc. (By Appointment Only). Interested musicians at all levels seeking a well organized and professional experience in a supportive and nurturing environment are welcome to audition! The Chorale is celebrating and affirming both their fourth decade and thirty first (31st) concert season for over a quarter century of successful programming and community service as the longest serving chorale in the area representing Douglas County and West Atlanta/West Georgia. Programming includes both "Family Christmas (12/04/18)" and "Family Easter / Spring (03/19/19) Variety Concerts" and potentially high profile invitations. First official rehearsal will be on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, 7:00 - 9:30 p.m.

  • Douglas County Youth Commission

    Thursday, August 16 - Friday, September 7:

    The Douglas County Department of External Affairs is now accepting applications from high school sophomores and juniors for the Douglas County Youth Commission. The program is dedicated to educating young citizens about the importance of being actively conscious of their local government environment and the opportunities available in the public sector. This program is in partnership with the Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS) of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia ACCG Georgia Counties and the Douglas County Citizen's Academy Alumni Association. The program will run from September through April and will meet once a month on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Applications will be due on September 7th and the program will start on September 25th.

  • Douglas County Challengers Baseball for Special Needs Children

    Thursday, August 16 - Wednesday, October 31:

    The Douglas County Challengers are a baseball team of children with special needs that are physically and/or mentally challenged. The children range in age from 5 - 21 years. The Challengers play every Saturday morning during the Spring and Fall seasons. Spring season is April, May and June and Fall season is September and October. The games are played at Beulah Ruritan Park, 3655 McKown Road. Registration is not limited to a particular time as children will be accepted at any time during either Spring or Fall seasons. The parents are not required to pay a registration fee. The Challenger team is funded by sponsors in order to provide uniforms and necessities, even the trophies are donated so there is no cost to the family of the players.

  • WellStar Douglas Hospital Volunteers needed

    Daily

    WellStar Douglas Hospital is seeking volunteers to staff the information desk, work in the gift shop, and provide support to staff and nurses in various areas of the hospital. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Volunteers are asked to commit for at least one four-hour shift weekly for at least six months.   • Georgia School of Photography Fall 2018 Class and Workshop

    Thursday, August 16 - Wednesday, September 5:

    Georgia School of Photography is pleased to announce their Fall 2018 Class & Workshop schedule offering a variety of subjects for both beginning and advanced photographers. If you are new to photography or need a refresher course, they are offering a 4-session Fundamentals of Photography class to help you learn the basics of using your camera. Then continue on to Fundamentals of Lightroom, a 4-session class designed to help you learn how to catalog your images and digitally develop them. In addition, they are also offering two 1-day workshops this Fall: Studio Lighting, a workshop introducing the equipment and basics of professional studio lighting, and Close-up/Macro Photography–Nature, an outdoor workshop focusing on techniques for photographing close-ups in nature. Registration is based on a first-come, first-served basis, and classes begin on September 5, 2018.

    The Douglas County Task Force on Family Violence and Sexual Assault is in need of volunteers. Interested candidates will serve as volunteer advocates on our Domestic Assault Response Team and Sexual Assault Response Team.   • Lee Road Small Area Plan Update

    Thursday, August 16 - Friday, August 31:

    The Lee Road Extension Plan has recently expanded to include the full lee Road Corridor—existing and future. The Corridor encompasses the existing length of Lee Road at Interstate 20, south to its intersection with Highway 92/Fairburn Road, the future extension past RaceTrac and Walgreens, and onto the current Bomar Road until it hits Chapel Hill Road. There will be free onsite Narcan training and overdose rescue kits provided by Georgia Overdose Prevention. Guest Speakers, Free Drug/Alcohol Test Kits, Recovery Information, Drug Information.   • SPLOST Public Input Meeting: Senior Center

    Thursday, September 6, 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.:

    There will be two public input meeting regarding the Senior Center being built in Lithia Springs by SPLOST funds. The first meeting will take place at Cornerstone Baptist Church (7167 S Sweetwater Rd) on Thursday, September 6th from 4 pm to 6 pm. Carter Watkins Associates Architects, Inc. will be at the meeting to take input on what the citizens of Douglas County would like to see in their Senior Center. After the 1st meeting, they will take this information and come up with a concept design and will have it in place for that second meeting.   • Women Impacting West GA: Impact Scholarship 5K Walk/Run

    Saturday, September 8, 8:00 a.m.:

    Women Impacting West Georgia is hosting an Impact Scholarship 5k on September 8th. The event is a fundraiser intended to help raise funds to provide scholarships to deserving high school students in the West GA area. It's a scenic race along one of the trail paths at Boundary Waters park, 5000 Highway 92/166, Douglasville. Finisher medals will be given to each participant and placement medals in various categories. Runners should wear a shirt representing their college/university or any school they would like to represent. The 5K walk/run begins at 8am and Fun Run for the little ones will begin at 7:30am.
