  • Meals On Wheels Volunteer Opportunity

    Make a difference in the lives of homebound older adults when you deliver a hot meal and a smile. Join Douglas County's Senior Services highly motivated group of volunteers and staff that serve 150 clients each day, Monday through Friday. Volunteer regularly on a daily, weekly, bi-monthly, quarterly, etc. schedule that works best for you. Our clients appreciate and look forward to the daily visits from the volunteers.   • Special Exhibit Featuring Two Historical Black Schools in Douglas County

    Thursday, February 21 - Saturday, March 16:

    The Douglas County Museum of History and Art invites you to attend a special exhibit featuring two historical black schools in Douglas County, Hutcheson High School 1932-157 and R.L. Cousins School, 1958-1967. The exhibit runs from Feb. 5 – March 16, with a reception for the public on February 23rd, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Anyone who attended or had family members who attended these schools are invited to come and enjoy the reception and attend the exhibit.

  • Douglas County Task Force Seeking Volunteers

    Thursday, February 21 - Sunday, March 31:

    The Douglas County Task Force on Family Violence and Sexual Assault is in need of volunteers. Interested candidates will serve as volunteer advocates on our Domestic Assault Response Team and Sexual Assault Response Team.   • Douglas County Sheriff's Office Public Handgun Classes

    Thursday, February 21 - Sunday, December 1:

    Public Handgun Classes are being offered to Douglas County residents by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Training Division Firearms Instructors. Classes are held one evening of each month from 6 pm until approximately 9 pm. The classes will include instruction and/or discussion on handgun safety, proper shooting techniques cleaning and maintenance, weapon function, etc. The classes are being held at 8470 Earl D. Lee Blvd. Applicants must be a resident or business owner in Douglas County. You must be at least 18 years of age. You must give consent for a background check. There is no fee for this class.     Douglas County Head Start will begin accepting applications March 1 for the 2019 - 2020 school year. If your child will be 3 or 4 years old by September 1, 2019, and you are interested in a free pre-school environment for your child, call today. This is a federally funded program based on income.   • The American Red Cross- Volunteer Opportunity

    Thursday, February 21 - Sunday, March 31:

    The American Red Cross is looking for a few good drivers to serve as volunteer transportation specialists to assist in delivering lifesaving blood products to area hospitals. Transportation specialists help ensure that blood products are available when and where they are needed for patients. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery patients, organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease may all need blood or platelets. Volunteer shifts will originate at our Douglasville Facility and will include travel around the metro Atlanta area. Training and use of Red Cross vehicles will be provided.   • Douglasville Celebrates its 144th Birthday

    Monday, February 25, 3:00 p.m.:

    Douglasville will be celebrating its 144th birthday on Monday, February 25th, 2019. To commemorate the occasion, the City of Douglasville invites residents, businesses, and the public to join them at the Douglasville Conference Center, 6700 Church Street, Douglasville, GA 30134, at 3 pm on February 25th. A brief presentation by Mayor Robinson and other elected officials will take place at the Conference Center, where light refreshments will be served. Immediately following the presentation, the group will assemble on O’Neal Plaza for a special ceremony. Pennies will be tossed into the fountain on the plaza to wish the City well in its 144th year. Participants will be urged to make their own wish for the City of Douglasville as their pennies are tossed into the fountain.

  • Woodie Fite Senior Center Benefit Concert Luncheon

    Friday, March 15, 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.:

    The Woodie Fite Center in conjunction with Waymark camp is hosting a benefit concert luncheon to raise money for scholarships for children to attend camp on March 15th. Waymark camp is an opportunity for children in foster care to go to camp for a week. These kids live in foster homes and have life experiences that most children or adults have probably never been through. This camp gives them a chance to be kids for a week and know that they are loved and important. Ticket includes a spaghetti lunch and concert presented by Lenwood Howard and Debbie Murff. Cost is $10 per person. Tickets can be purchased in advance for the meal and concert that day at the Woodie Fite Center Mon-Fri 9-12. If you are unable to attend the event and would still like a meal, we will have plates to go for pick up.

    Sunday, June 2, 7:00 a.m.:

    Come join the Kiwanis Club of Douglas County on June 2, 2019 for the 25th Annual Silver Anniversary Sweetwater Triathlon-Duathlon and 5k at Sweetwater Creek State Park, 1750 Mount Vernon Road. The Triathlon begins in the reservoir with a 200 yard swim, followed by a 10 miles bike on asphalt and finishing with a 5K run through a wooded trail. Experience some of what the beautiful park has to offer on this beginner Tri. The Duathlon will begin on the trail, with the 5K run, followed by the 10 miles asphalt bike ride and finishing with a 5K run on the trail. The 5K will run on the road and trail.
