Outdoor Burning
Due to air quality concerns, the Georgia Department of Environment Protection enacts an outdoor burning ban for Douglas County each year that begins May 1st and continues through September 30th. No outdoor burning is allowed during this time period.

During the other months of the year, County residents wishing to burn vegetative debris may obtain a free burn permit from their local fire station. Burn permits will only be issued the day burning is to begin, and if the winds are under 10 miles per hour. Residents can dial 770-949-1212 after 8 a.m. to determine if burning permits are being given each day or check the home page of the County web site. In addition to obtaining a burning permit, residents must follow all burning guidelines. Guidelines can be found by clicking on the Burning Permit Application/Guidelines link located on the right, under "Downloadable Documents".

CPR Makes A Difference
Once the heart stops beating, brain death can occur in 4 to 6 minutes. Performing CPR provides oxygen to the brain and other vital organs to give the victim the best chance of full recovery after EMS takes over. If immediate CPR is given and a defibrillator is used within the first few minutes following sudden cardiac arrest, the person's chance of survival doubles.

Learning CPR is quick and painless. Follow the links on the right to locate a CPR class near you, watch the video demonstrations, or download a free Android app.

Blood Pressure Monitoring
High blood pressure is the silent killer! Douglas County residents may have their blood pressure monitored at any fire station between 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. every day (when fire station personnel are in station).
