CALENDAR ART CONTEST TO HIGHLIGHT DOUGLAS COUNTY YOUNG ARTISTS

Douglas County School System and Douglas County Board of Commissioners Partner for Calendar Art Competition

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the Douglas County School System are inviting students from across Douglas County to participate in a "What Douglas County Means to Me" art contest. The calendar art contest is open to all students in grades K-12. Douglas County Chairman, Dr. Romona Jackson Jones says the student art calendar is a powerful way to celebrate the artistic talents of students across Douglas County. "It's vitally important to showcase the talented art work of the next generation and I'm looking forward to seeing our gifted youth come forth," Dr. Romona Jackson Jones said.

"Art adds a vital dimension to the Douglas County School System's curriculum. Creative activities are an important component and building block in the education of every student," Douglas County Schools Superintendent Trent North said. "This art contest represents a creative opportunity to celebrate and encourage our student's interest in fine arts."

A panel of community art professionals will select at least 14 students from all entries as winners. Winning artwork will be featured for each month in the 2019 Douglas County Calendar, which will be distributed at the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at Deer Lick Park on Saturday, December 15th, 2018. There is no charge to enter the competition.

Artwork should be paintings or drawings only (no photos) and without framing. Color drawings should be submitted on 8.5x11 paper. Artwork entries should reflect the contest theme of "What does Douglas County mean to me?" All artwork should feature the name of the student and grade level with contact information on back.

Entrants may mail their submissions to the Douglas County School System Central Office at 9030 Highway 5, Douglasville, Georgia, 30134 to the attention of Portia Lake. Artwork may also be hand delivered to the Douglas County Courthouse, 8700 Hospital Drive, Douglasville, Georgia 30134 to the attention of Rick Martin.

The deadline for receipt of all entries is Thursday, October 18. Judges will finalize and announce the winners by October 22. For more information contact Rick Martin, Director of Communications or Community Relations at 770-920-7303 or Portia Lake, Director of Public Information for Douglas County School System at 770-651-2015.
