Living. Growing. Prospering.
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously 5-0 to proclaim February 5, 2019, as Firefighters Recognition Day. The proclamation was announced at the Board of Commission meeting by Douglas County Fire Chief Scott Spencer on the evening of January 22, 2019.
The Firefighters Recognition Day Proclamation recognizes and honors the brave men and women who protect the life and property of the residents in Douglas County. Firefighters are responsible for responding to calls regarding a variety of emergencies while facing immeasurable risks and potential dangers during each incident. In these dangerous and uncertain times, Douglas County firefighters exemplify the highest level of public service through their courage, commitment, and level of performance.
"Being a firefighter is the best job in the world, we get to help people every day," Fire Chief Spencer said. "When citizens don't know who to call, they call the fire department because they know we will help them. It's an honor to be recognized by the Board of Commissioners and the community."
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners encourages all citizens to pay special tribute by displaying their support and appreciation to the firefighters and fire departments that contribute to the safety and well-being of the community on February 5th and throughout the year.
