Douglasville, Georgia- The Douglas County Department of Parks and Recreation is partnering with Georgia State Games to host the annual Fishing Derby for the community on June 1, 2019 from 8am to 12pm at Deer Lick Park. The park is located at 2105 Mack Road, Douglasville, Georgia 30135. The goal of the event is to promote athletics and health programs. The derby is part of the Georgia State Games Championships, a festival that holds competition in 42 different sporting events.
The Fishing Derby will be separated by age groups: 4 and under, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-16, adaptive, and seniors. A prize will be given to the largest catch in each age group. "This event is a low cost and fun event for local families, allowing them to enjoy local parks and participate in the life- long activity of fishing," Community Programs Coordinator Tammy Cochran said. "Families have enjoyed the event at Deer Lick Park for several years now and it has been fun to watch the little ones faces light up when they catch their first fish."
