Douglasville, GA - Douglas County Board of Commission Chairman Dr. Romona Jackson Jones and the Board of Commissioners are hosting a 150th birthday celebration kick-off event marking the significant milestone of Douglas County's existence from 1870 to 2020. The big bash kicks off at 11:30 a.m. at the Douglasville Conference Center, 6700 Church St. Douglasville, Ga. "This is a big party and celebration that is free and open to the public," said Tiffany Stewart, Director of External Affairs. "We are having food and entertainment for all guests."

"The purpose for the celebration is to share in the success and growth of Douglas County and it's an honor and a privilege to be the Chairman of the Board during this significant occasion," said Commission Chair, Dr. Romona Jackson Jones, Chairman of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.

Multiple events during the year, both existing events and new events will occur celebrating the 150th birthday of Douglas County. "The actual birthday date is October 17th, and that day we plan on celebrating all day and end the evening with fireworks," said Rick Martin, Director of Communications and Community Relations for Douglas County. "Citizens should be on the lookout for a calendar on line at with and list of events for the year that will be updated throughout the year to alert people of what, where and when events will be happening in celebration of Douglas County's 150th celebration.

Here are some of the signature events that have been approved so far:

  • "Our Past" Douglas County Sesquicentennial Exhibit Reception-2/25/2020 at 4:00 p.m. (Douglas County Museum of History & Art)
  • Douglas County Black History Program: Honoring R.L. Cousins and Hutcheson High School- 2/19/2020 at 6:00 p.m. at Douglas County Courthouse.
  • Douglas County Historic Site Trail Opening-3/17/2020
  • Mad Hatter's Tea Party 3/21/2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Partnership with Cultural Arts Council) (Kids event)
  • Douglas County Women's History Month Reception 3/24/2020
