Douglasville, Georgia – The Douglas County Fire Department is investigating the cause of a house that occurred in the Fairways Subdivision of Douglasville, Georgia on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.

Dispatchers with the Douglas County E-911 Emergency Operations Center began receiving calls about 6:30 a.m. for an occupied house on fire in the 6300 blk of Creek Valley Way, Douglasville, Georgia. When firefighters arrived on the scene, heavy flames could be seen coming from the structure. There were no injuries reported. "A total of thirteen people lived in the home," said Rick Martin, fire department spokesman. "The structure was a total loss."

"Occupants of the home said they smelled smoke and heard smoke detectors going off at the time of the fire, said Martin. “We hope this is a reminder to all homeowners to please check their smoke detectors and change their batteries."

There's no word on the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
