Overview:
The mission of the Boys & Girls Club is to provide a quality developmental program that empowers youth, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to become productive adults. The Boys & Girls Club of Douglas County is an after-school program that serves at-risk, disadvantaged youth between the ages of 6 and 18. Building Expansion Needed The Douglas County Boys & Girls Club facility is now 25 years old and in desperate need of expansion. Because of the lack of space, the club is now faced with the serious issue of having to decline hundreds of applicants a year and losing its teenage members. While the average daily attendance is 160, our current space was designed for approximately 130 children. Club programs and activities are age-specific, but with no space to separate the teenagers from the younger children, both groups often socialize in the same area. As a result, retaining teenage members is a challenge.
Your Help is Needed Now
The vision of the new teen center is to inspire and enable young people in critical teen years to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. The fundraising goal for the teen center is $1 million, which will include the building as well as furnishings, equipment and start-up operating costs. We provide each child who comes to our Club the tools to make positive choices. We cannot do this alone, however. We need the support of caring people from the community like you. Be the One to join the community in support of the Douglas County Boys & Girls Club. - While the membership fee is only $35 per year per child, the cost to the Club to serve one child is $1,000/year.
