The 9th annual Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival will be held Saturday - Sunday, June 4th - 5th, 2016, in Douglas County, Georgia, and you are invited!
The theme Hydrangea for 2016 will be the "Blue Wave", so think America, the Beautiful!
Festival Centerpiece: Standard Flower Show
America, the Beautiful!” is the selected theme for the Standard Flower Show for the 9th Annual Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival.
The theme Hydrangea is the Blue Wave Macrophylla which is the first blue theme Hydrangea in the festival's history.

Official Opening of the Douglas County Butterfly Trail - gardens registered with the Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail
Six Public Douglas County butterfly gardens have been inventoried and catalogued as part of the Rosalyn Carter Butterfly Trail effort to preserve the monarch butterfly and provide habitat and fuel for their migration: Woodie Fite Senior Center, Cultural Arts Council, Master Gardeners Vegetable Garden, Children's Garden at the Douglas County Library, Freedom Island, and Deer Lick Park

Join in the fun and decorate!
All residents and business owners are asked to decorate their mailboxes, lamp posts, gates, fences, trees, signs, and doorways in festival Hydrangea blossoms, ribbons, and colors to welcome guests and festival attendees to our community! Keep Douglasville Beautiful will be judging the outstanding efforts, so be creative! Many local businesses carry supplies and artificial blooms for decorations that can be done inexpensively.
For consideration of your decoration, please e-mail photos, address and contact information to info@KeepDouglasvilleBeautiful.org no later than 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 27th. You may also submit the photos and information by mail to P. O. Box 219, Douglasville 30133, or drop them off at Douglasville City Hall at O'Neal Plaza.
Winners will receive an award ribbon and two tickets to the Hydrangea Festival Garden Tour.
While you are decorating, don't forget to plant a Hydrangea or two in your yard!

There are 66 categories in the Standard Flower Show, and all categories are open to the Public with no entry fee! Bring your blossom, bloom, stem, tree, shrub, etc. to the first floor Atrium of the Douglas County Courthouse, and enter it to be judged! Entries are accepted:
- Friday, June 3rd, 1 - 6 p.m.
- Saturday, June 4th, 7 - 9 a.m.
Judging begins at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and the flower show opens to the Public at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Horticulture entries are not judged against one another but against a proven standard for that species, so there may be multiple first places, second places, and so on.
Most Festival events have free admission.
