The Douglas County Board of Commissioners, in cooperation with the Office of Risk and Safety, is offering defensive driving classes to the youth of Douglas County and surrounding areas.
The course, developed by the National Safety Council, provides classroom instruction on how to adjust driving according to road and weather conditions, how to recognize and react appropriately to potential driving hazards, and reinforces seat belt safety and traffic laws. Attendees will learn how to become a defensive driver.
This course show ways to drive safely and responsibly, ways that will become good habits as the driver puts them in to practice. These habits can make the difference between life and death, safety and injury. In addition, most insurance companies offer an insurance discount upon presentation of your Certificate of Course Completion.
Although the course meets the requirements for insurance discounts, This is not a Georgia Department of Public Safety approved class which means It is not approved for Point Reduction or DUI.

The course fee for out-of-county youth is $25.00 for youth ages 15 - 20, Douglas County residents and C.A.R.E. Program students are free of charge.

The classes are taught six times annually. The class begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch. Classes are held in the OLD Douglas County Courthouse, 6754 West Broad Street (Bankhead Highway), Douglasville. Please enter the old Courthouse on the Church street, through the door opposite the Old Douglasville Police Department.
