Overview:
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners, in cooperation with volunteer local law enforcement officers, the Douglas County Fire Department, the Douglas County Personnel Department, and volunteer citizens, is offering defensive driving classes to the youth, adults, and seniors of Douglas County and surrounding areas.

The course, developed by the National Safety Council, provides classroom instruction on how to adjust driving according to road and weather conditions, how to recognize and react appropriately to potential driving hazards, and reinforces seat belt safety and traffic laws. Attendees will learn how to become a defensive driver.

This course show ways to drive safely and responsibly, ways that will become good habits as the driver puts them in to practice. These habits can make the difference between life and death, safety and injury. In addition, most insurance companies offer an insurance discount upon presentation of your Certificate of Course Completion.

Although the course meets the requirements for insurance discounts, This is not a Georgia Department of Public Safety approved class which means It is not approved for Point Reduction or DUI.

Applications for the course are downloadable from this web site, and may be emailed to Merriee Miller at mdmiller@co.douglas.ga.us.

You will need to bring one of the following with you on the day of the class:
  • Learner's Permit Number
  • Driver's License Number; or
  • Social Security Number.
The course fee for out-of-county youth is $25.00 to youth ages 15 - 20, Douglas County residents and C.A.R.E. Program students are free of charge and Adults 21 - 54 may take the course for a fee of $30. Court ordered or court referred teens and adults are $49

The classes are taught on one or two Saturdays each month. The class begins at 8:50 a.m. and ends at 4:20 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch. Classes are held in the OLD Douglas County Courthouse, 6754 West Broad Street (Bankhead Highway), Douglasville. Please enter the old Courthouse on the back side (Lower Level on the Church Street side) through the door opposite the Douglasville Police Department.
