05_07_splost_status_update

Thank you to the citizens for supporting this SPLOST and for participating in its success. Because of you, your SPLOST revenues are consistently outperforming original projections and are able to do even more projects for the citizens of Douglas County. We want the citizens, businesses, and stakeholders of Douglas County to know that your SPLOST dollars and projects are being managed promptly. Please contact us with any questions by visiting www.2016splost.com  or contacting our Communications Director, David Good at 2016splost@gmail.com.

We have several of our larger projects either completed or nearing completion: Douglas County's $16 million Public Safety Radio Systems has been completed and is in service. Traffic goers will notice that Post Rd Bridge over Dog River is open to traffic. The 18,000 SqFt Lithia Springs Senior Center and the 30,000 SqFt  Boundary Waters Activity Center had their grand openings and are open to the public. Residents in the Whitestone community will be happy to see the Whitestone Culvert on Whitestone Blvd has been replaced and open to traffic.

The rebuilt concessions at Bill Arp and Fairplay are complete and the County has received the Certificate of Occupancy. With the additional revenue, the county can start work on replacing the dugouts and fencing at these parks. Other projects are in some form of procurement, scope, design or construction; such streetlights throughout the county and along with I-20 access, yearly paving of thoroughfares throughout the county, improving traffic congestion on Hwy 5 @ Douglas Blvd, fire station renovations, increasing our Fire/EMS fleet and adding sidewalks along Maxham Road from the County Line towards SR 6. Two of our larger projects are in their infancy, Lee Rd widening from I-20 bridge South to SR92 and new Fire station #9.  at the corner of Douglas Hill & SR6You can see the projects that are underway and all the projects that have been completed by viewing the monthly reports on our website.

*Pictured below is the new 30,000 SQFT Boundary Waters Activity Center, the Bill Arp and Fairplay Concessions, the recently completed Whitestone Culvert that replaces the old culvert that was wiped out during the 2009 flood and the upgrade to Post Rd bridge as it goes over Dog River.
