Douglas County, GA – The Douglas County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted at its legislative meeting on January 4 to adopt a new redistricting map amongst a rapidly changing county. Douglas County’s Redistricting Committee was led by Vice Chair & District 2 Commissioner Kelly G. Robinson.
“I would like to thank State Rep. Kimberly Alexander (D-66), Chair of the Douglas Delegation of the General Assembly, as well as the state office of reapportionment for their enablement of the process. Last but more importantly I want to thank the staff and their team members and select citizen stakeholders,” said Commissioner Robinson. “They were well prepared for the drafting of the new redistricting map process, and we have to acknowledge the people who put in the work to get to this point.”
The new map, which shows minimum changes, splits the 8.9 % growth in Douglas County evenly among the districts with slight modifications to districts two, three and four. The new map will move to the General Assembly on January 11, 2022, for final approval for election purposes.
“Policy and procedures are up to date,” said Mr. Milton Kidd, Director of Elections & Voter Registration for Douglas County, Ga. “New signage will be used to help voters identify their new precinct if they experience any changes.”
Before any upcoming election, voters will receive a card notifying them of any precinct changes. The Board of Elections and Voter Registration has planned voter outreach and voter education for the areas affected by the new map.
