Douglas County District 1 Commissioner Henry Mitchell III is inviting the community out for a special dedication ceremony at the Lithia Springs Senior Center, 7301 Groovers Lake, Lithia Springs, GA on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 3:00 p.m.

“I believe introducing brand new fire department apparatus to our community is important to let citizens know because ultimately they own it since it came from SPLOST pennies,” Commissioner Henry Mitchell, III said. “But I’m also proud to support our fire department in commemorating the new ladder truck.”

Douglas County Fire Chief Roderick Jolivette has organized and helped put together his second ritual of dedicating new Fire Department equipment.

“A wet-down ceremony is a tradition celebrated by fire departments to commission new fire apparatus by anointing it with water sprayed from the retiring fire truck,” said Fire Chief Roderick Jolivette. “But for this occasion, we will have senior citizens from the community with specially created buckets filled with water to pour on the brand-new ladder truck.”

Older adults in Douglas County have expressed how excited they are about the upcoming truck dedication ceremony because they have not taken part in anything like this before.  “This ladder truck will be an asset to the community and shows the community at large how their SPLOST pennies are being used on much needed public safety vehicles,” said Rick Martin, Douglas County spokesman.

From a community standpoint, citizens have been supportive of the recent updates to District 1 area of the county. “There are quite a few industrial buildings, industrial parks, commercial buildings and multi-story hotels and apartments in the area,” SPLOST Communications Director David Good said. “All of such will continue getting benefits from Station 1 that can respond with a ladder truck.
