Community Partners Praise Douglas County Officials In Ladder Truck Dedication Ceremony

Douglas County, GA - Citizens from the Lithia Springs Senior Center helped welcome a brand-new ladder truck to Fire station #1 on Groovers Lake Road, in grand fashion on Friday, May 13, 2022.

“The citizens of Douglas County have done wonders,” said Douglas County District One Commissioner Henry Mitchell, III.  “They have created a new senior center, a community center, and a 15-million-dollar radio system.” Commissioner Mitchell continued praising the older adults in the audience.

“Now, we are bringing in new equipment for our fire department and our first responders, and the funding came from the continuing SPLOST funds,” said Mitchell. “It’s just the wonderful things we do in Douglas County, all because of the citizens.”

SPLOST stands for Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and the citizens of Douglas County voted for one in the 2016 election.

“The 1.14-million-dollar truck will serve the community well,” said Fire Chief Roderick Jolivette, who also serves as Director Fire & EMS. “It will help us with our ISO fire rating. “Most importantly, the new ladder truck will give our personnel good equipment to work to utilize.”

An ISO fire rating is a score provided to fire departments and insurance companies by the Insurance Services Office.  The score reflects how prepared a community and area is for fires.

Seniors from the Lithia Springs Center participated in the Wet Down and Push in ceremony, a tradition dating back to the 1800s. Volunteer firefighters would wash the station’s new equipment and then push it into the fire station.
