Douglas County BOC Unanimously Passes Balanced $124.9M FY 2023 Budget

Nearly 40% dedicated to Public Safety

Douglas County, GA - The Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously, 5-0, to approve a balanced budget of $124.9 million dollars for the fiscal year 2023 during Tuesday evening's legislative session.  Public Safety was a priority for the Board of Commissioners when balancing this budget.

“We approved a budget with 49.2 million dollars which is also 39 % of the 2023 budget dedicated to public safety,” said Dr. Romona Jackson Jones, Chairman of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. “We asked citizens to participate in a survey and share with us their strategic priorities, and public safety came in No. 1.”

The 2023 budget includes a 5% pay increase for all full-time government employees, including public safety employees. The BOC previously approved 10% raises for public safety employees and 5% increases for non-public safety employees during the current fiscal year.

The fiscal year 2023 budget includes additional funding for the Sheriff’s Office, technology maintenance, outside agencies from the community, Fire & EMS, and the county-wide radio system.
